Honoring Our Seniors
Honoring those who would not otherwise be able to hear quality live performances by bringing music to them is an important part of Michael's performing life. Little did he dream as he stood on the main stage of Carnegie Hall in 1998 that he would be performing for seniors and people needing skilled nursing care on a regular basis today. But it has become something that has enriched his life immeasurably.
In Early 2008, Michael joined Merrymakers, a non-profit organization dedicated to brightening the lives of the elderly through music and laughter, by providing quality live, monthly musical performances to area senior living facilities. Music is often used with elders to increase levels of physical, emotional and mental functioning. The sensory and intellectual stimulation of music can help maintain or improve a person's quality of life.
From a handful of performances in 1986, today Merrymakers serves over 130 facilities every month with free, musical entertainment.
In 2014, Michael performed for over 3,000 seniors in Nebraska and Iowa.
